MANUAL WATER SOFTENER REGENERATION INSTRUCTIONS

It is vitally important the water softener is regenerated on a regular basis. If the softener has been sized correctly for the equipment it protects then regeneration once a week should be sufficient. This is only a guide and regeneration should be carried out more often if there are any early signs of scale. Water hardness can change and drastically affect the period between regeneration.

The softener is connected between the water supply and equipment by two hoses connected to the two taps on the softener. The hose from the water supply should be connected to the top tap, and a hose from the bottom tap should go to the equipment.

Ensure that the two lengths of clear plastic hose are also fitted to the drain side of the taps.
When in working their positions both taps should be at 9 o’clock.

To Regenerate
1. Turn both taps to 3 o’clock (fig.1). Ensure both lengths of clear tube are over a drain or bucket. A very small amount of water under mains pressure will be released, water may drain from the bottom tube for a few moments as the softener is emptied.

2. Unscrew the larger top knob and remove the lid assembly (fig.2).

3. Pour 1 to 2.5 kg of salt (depending on size of softener) into the top of the softener.

4. Replace lid ensuring that the large O-ring is clean and tighten the top knob.

5. Turn top tap to 9 o’clock (fig.3). Make certain that the clear tube from the bottom tap is still going to drain as a low flow of water will continue from this tube while the softener is regenerating.

6. Allow the water to flow for approximately 40 minutes or until the water is no longer salty.

7. Turn the bottom tap to 9 o’clock (fig.4)

Regeneration complete

Never empty the contents of the softener; the resin is the agent that performs the softening process.
